Durango has several designated parking spaces for handicap vehicles. All vehicles parked in these designated spaces must have a valid handicap plate or placard properly displayed. These spaces have designated limits on the sign which must be obeyed for turnover and access. Handicap vehicles remaining in a handicap-designated parking space for more than the designated time may be cited. Those drivers with a properly displayed handicap placard or plate may park for an unlimited time in a non-handicapped metered space without activating the meter, other than the 30-minute meter spaces.


Parking revenue is placed in a designated special fund called Transportation Services. In order to reduce vehicle congestion in Durango, revenue from citations, permits and parking meters is used to meet future parking needs and offset the operational costs of the Durango Transit and Multi Modal divisions.


A Parking Analysis and Feasibility Study has provided several recommendations that are being implemented for parking development. A way to help with parking congestion is to use other modes of transportation like the bus, walking or biking.


Smart Cards can be used in all City meters except those on five blocks of Bull Street from Lady Street to Laurel Street. To pay for parking with a Smart Card, a customer simply inserts it into the slot on the parking meter. The meter will read the tiny microchip embedded in the card and the meter will show you how much money is left on the Smart Card. By leaving the card in the meter, the card will purchase time in 20 minute increments every few seconds. Smart Cards are the size of a credit card and fit conveniently into a wallet or pocket. Cards can be purchased with $20, $50, $75, $100 and $150 amounts, and the card itself costs $5. Customers who purchase Smart Cards will receive a bonus 6% of time on their cards.


Drivers have a 5-minute grace period for parking meter and Alternate Side Parking zones. The law gives drivers an extra 5 minutes past the expired time on the parking meter receipt and Alternate Side Parking signs. During the grace period, parking tickets cannot be issued.


After you insert a card for payment, the digital readout will indicate that a bank authorization is in progress. If the bank authorizes payment, the digital readout will indicate that payment has been approved, and the meter should issue a parking receipt.


If the bank does not authorize payment, the digital readout will read "unreadable card," "not paid," or "not accepted," and the meter will not issue a receipt. The credit or debit card account will not be charged. You can use coin payment to get a receipt from the same meter or try your card at a different meter on the same block.


For example, if meter regulations begin at 9 AM, you can purchase a receipt as early as 8 AM to pay for parking from 9 AM onward in accordance with the parking and meter regulations at the location where you want to park.


When a parking meter is out of service, it will flash a red light and the display message will read "machine out of order." You must use a functional parking meter on the same block or the next block to purchase a parking receipt. In a parking field, purchase a parking receipt from the nearest meter to the broken one.


If all parking meters on the block, on the next block, or in the parking field are all broken or missing, New York City law allows you to park for the maximum amount of time posted for that metered space. Make sure to document the date, time, and meter numbers in case you need to dispute a parking ticket.


From May 15-September 15 annually, parking in the City of Rehoboth Beach is by permit or via meters only. Parking permits are enforced from 10 am-5 pm, and metered spaces require payment from 10 am-10 pm.


Head-in parking is required. Vehicles must be parked head in with the front of the vehicle toward the curb or edge of pavement in all angled or perpendicular parking spaces within the City of Rehoboth Beach. (Handicap-accessible vehicles are exempted from the head-in parking requirement.)


The Parking Department is located at 1 City Hall Drive, behind 30 Lake Avenue. Through the end of the summer season, parking permits also may be purchased from 8:30 am-2:30 pm Thursday-Sunday at kiosks in the 700 block of Bayard Avenue, between Stockley and Norfolk streets, and at 408 Rehoboth Avenue just beyond the drawbridge and traffic circle as you come into town. Parking permits are available on a daily, weekend, weekly, or seasonal basis.


Thanks to the concept of smart parking, parking meters are no longer simple pay stations. They have become real electronic counters for motorists, which goes far beyond hourly payment of parking tickets.

Presto 1000 is the system which allows the operator to remotely manage and monitor each parking meter. Based on granted user rights, the Operator Portal allows the operator to remotely set and modify any given parameters on any parking meter connected.


Motorists can manage their parking subscription status directly on PrestoPark. Additionally, they can purchase virtual tickets for any given zone in the city, manage and analyse their transactions on their user account.


Permanently communicating with the parking platform, the parking meters provide a large amount of parking data that can be processed and analysed by the Presto 1000 operator portal. Add-on functions allow municipalities to provide motorists with innovative services which can be customized to individual user needs.


In order to address the lack of cash and adapt to new means of payment, IEM offers several payment options for its parking meters. In addition to credit cards based on chip or NFC technologies, e-wallets and SMS payment have now become standard means of payment.


Powerful analysis and decision-making tools support parking operators in their daily management of parking activities. The Presto 1000 portal handles all the data transmitted from parking meters to the parking portal. The system tracks all the technical and financial transactions and provides statistics such as sales by period, region, payment method or method of parking. An overview of the parking activities is displayed on a preconfigured dashboard.


Smart parking meters designed to work in conjunction with parking apps, street sensors and mounted cameras can automate operations for agency parking services and make self-parking easier for drivers. In Milwaukee, smart parking meters from three companies are being tested in five locations: Broadway in the Third Ward, Old World Third Street, Brady Street, North Avenue, and an area at Oakland and Locust.


Single-space meters make up the majority of the District's parking meter inventory, but DDOT is aggressively working to upgrade its technology with a variety of improvements including multi-space meters which offer better performance and reliability. DDOT is also testing other state-of-the-art technology including Pay by Phone parking and digital, solar-powered single-space meters that take credit cards and can be monitored and managed remotely.


The District currently has approximately 13,000 single-space parking meters deployed in the District. The current electronic mechanisms were first deployed in 1998 and were a vast improvement over the mechanical meters that came before them. The meters offered better timing and the use of electronic hand held devices to monitor and record repair and collection activities.


Beginning in 2004, the Department began a program to upgrade these meters with newer next generation electronic mechanisms. This program continues today along with the conversion of some areas to multi-space meters.


The multi-space meter is a solar powered device used to manage multiple parking spaces within a one block area. It is easy to use, modern, tough and smart. Installed and operated by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), it works regardless of weather conditions and its two way communications immediately alert DDOT of any malfunctions. There are currently about 550 multi-space meters in the District, managing approximately 4,200 parking spaces.


Portland, New York City, Seattle, and other cities across the country had many of the same types of single-space meters we have in the District. These meters tend to age and break down more frequently than the new meters. It is often difficult to fix or replace the old meters, due to the unavailability of many parts. The interest by these cities and the District is to have a parking meter system that is more reliable and less costly to maintain and repair than the old system.


The multi-space meters are user friendly and require only a few steps operate. When parking in a multi-space zone walk to the nearest pay station and either deposit coins or insert your credit/debit card for payment. When you obtain the time you need, you press the green button. The pay station will print out a receipt showing the amount paid, the date, and the expiration time.
